Sunset Guiding & Outfitting specializes in providing a relaxing western excursion and superb hospitality in the spectacular Alberta Rockies at our "Panther River Retreat". Relax and enjoy an exhilarating horseback adventure in the spectacular Alberta Rocky Mountains. Ride through the panoramic scenery and marvel at the crystal clear waters of the Red Deer and Panther Rivers. Rushing waters, high mountain meadows and exquisite panoramas are the perfect setting for horseback riding, photography, fishing, wildlife photography, winter activities or just simply relaxing.

We provide gentle, well broke horses, suitable for all ages and ability. Cabins, campground and RV Park will accommodate your cowboys and cowgals on day trips, or just for a few hours. Sunset Guiding and Outfitting is open year-round. All activities, summer or winter, are guided and depart at your convenience. Panther River Retreat features many holiday treats, including mini vacations, extended holidays, photography trips, winter fun or our special options. Alberta's "Great Rocky Mountain Escape", the Panther River Retreat, is located at the confluence of the Red Deer and Panther Rivers 120 kms northwest of Calgary via Highway 40, or take Highway 2 to Sundre and west on the Coal Camp Road. It's just a short drive ... we are accessible by vehicle year-round on high-grade, well-maintained roads. Open June 1 to late September, the Dormer Lake Fishing Trip features excellent holiday opportunities for horseback riding, lake fishing, and an abundance of flora and fauna photography. Ride your favorite steed to Dormer Lake. We depart from the Panther River Retreat at approximately 9:00 a.m. and return the same day at approximately 5:00 p.m. for a trip that includes about 6 hours of riding and 2 hours of fishing. Upon arriving at the lake, you may fish or hike, or find a comfortable resting spot and view the mountains and watch for sheep and elk. SUNSET BRINGS WIRELESS TO THE WILDERNESS! Our adventures are designed for those who enjoy getting away from it all, those who want to see the Alberta mountains and nature at its finest. We also know that you may still have business to conduct while on your getaway, or need to remain in touch with family and friends while away from home. As a result, Sunset is pleased to offer wireless web service for your holiday. If you're a photographer, you don't have to lug all those wildlife books, just turn on your laptop to check: Was that really a Pileated Woodpecker?
